Illustrated Postcards – Rural Scenes with a fantasy twist

Each postcard is a limited edition of 100. They depict imaginary Galician rural landscapes, but with a touch of fantasy.

Each scene includes a short text in Galician that blends humor, mystery, and poetry. Some editions may feature variants: an animal that changes location, an element replaced by a similar one... but the whole continues to evoke the same atmosphere.

The postcards are protected in a transparent sleeve, sealed with a printed sticker indicating the name of the scene and the limited edition number (for example, “Penedo da Espiral – 12 of 100”).

A collection to observe calmly. For those who enjoy details, gentle irony, and stories that need no explanation.

A handmade creation process, structured in hexagons and typography

These illustrations are composed on a hexagonal grid, like a puzzle. Each element has been drawn directly on the iPad using Fontself (an iPad app for drawing custom fonts without any technical knowledge), considering how it should fit visually with its neighbors. Some occupy a single hexagon, while others span several cells.

The drawings are drawn using a pressure-sensitive brush, which allows the line thickness to be varied and simulates the use of different fine-tipped markers. All drawings are editable vectors, making it easy to fine-tune paths, thicknesses, and angles, even fine-tuning each node to smooth out lines and correct irregularities.

Once drawn, all elements are exported from Fontself as a font, which is then opened and restructured in Glyphs (a professional macOS application for designing and editing fonts).

In another master Glyphs file, each element is carefully assigned, repositioned, rotated, or rescaled, evaluating how it behaves within its reference hexagon to avoid a rigid or grid-like appearance and achieve a more natural and organic arrangement. Each one is treated as a modular visual piece, visually testing its integration alongside other similar elements, ensuring that it does not break the harmony of the whole.

To compose the scenes I use an editor I created specifically for this purpose: a tool with a palette of elements classified by similarity (terrain, rocks, animals, vegetation, buildings...), which I can freely select and place on the canvas.

The scenes can be saved, loaded, and modified later, or copied directly as a text string that can then be pasted into design programs like Affinity Designer, thanks to the fact that each element is contained in a digital typeface.

In fact, this entire graphic universe is based on typefaces I created myself. The visual elements—rocks, trees, animals—are converted into typographic characters using Fontself and Glyphs, allowing the scenes to be worked with as if they were writing.
In addition, I have designed two complementary typefaces: a display typeface, used for the place names, with a rustic but clean style, with echoes of traditional signage; and another typeface for the descriptive texts, lighter and more legible, with a tone close to an informal manuscript.
