Geometric patterns and text

Geometric patterns and text

It's been quite a while, but we've finally added support for customizing our geometric pattern bookmarks with bespoke text. This has been one of my wishes since I started designing them a few years ago: to be able to combine the aesthetic of the pattern with a personal message, creating unique pieces to give as gifts or to enjoy yourself.

Integration

The way we integrate the text without disrupting the design's harmony is a key detail. The frame that surrounds the text isn't just a simple box: it automatically adjusts as you type, always respecting the structure of the geometric pattern.

Each design (like Disco Pop, which has four variations depending on the number of lines in each tile) is made up of internal subdivisions. To maintain visual consistency, the frame grows in precise increments that coincide with these same subdivisions. Thus, the text fits naturally within the geometric design, as if it were part of it from the beginning.

Typefaces

Regarding the typefaces, each model uses the font that best suits its visual style. The 10 PRINT, L ZERO 1966, and XL.ZERO 2023 models use IBM Plex Mono, a technical and modular font that reinforces the digital character of these patterns. For the remaining models, we used Huninn, a geometric and humanist sans-serif with rounded edges. In addition to its friendly and clean appearance, it offers impressive typographic coverage: it includes cyrillic characters, syllabaries hiragana, katakana, and a comprehensive Han set, making it a versatile and very complete option for multilingual texts.

Furthermore, to prevent the introduction of characters not supported by the font, we have also incorporated a small "tofu font" as a security measure. A tofu font is simply the typical empty box that appears when a character does not exist in the font. If someone types a symbol that the main font does not include, this neutral box will be displayed automatically. This way, the user instantly detects any incompatible characters, and the final design remains clean, consistent, and free of surprises in the engraving.

Tex placement

For now, the text can only be placed in the center of the design. Later, we will consider expanding the options to allow the text to be placed to the left, right, top, or bottom, offering up to nine possible positions to suit every style and preference.

With this update, we've finally completed the circle: geometric design, handcrafted finish, and true personalization. We can't wait to see the combinations you'll create in the online store.
